Description
Opaque 100% pure silk scarf. Not as airy as the sheer 5mm scarf but more durable. Dye safely with our Jacquard Acid Dyes and use for heavy weight play silks and the nature table.
This shiny silk is often referred as China silk, "paj" or habotai.
8 mm weight. 35" x 35"
What mm stands for: 100% silk fabric is measured by a weight referred to as mm or momme (pronounce mummy). 8mm = 1 ounce and 1 ounce = 28 grams. The smaller the mm the lighter the fabric. 1mm = 3.5 grams.
Pre-washing notes from our supplier: "Although the silks are untreated and are ostensibly "ready-to-dye", we have found that with silk in general, occasionally small amounts of silk gum (the stuff left by the moths) is still in the fabric. Where there is gum, or even fingerprints, the fabric will dye lighter. Look for shiny areas in your silk - if there are any you should wash it before dyeing or wash all silk if you want to be really safe. We recommend liquid hand dishwashing soap or Synthrapol for pre-washing because it's really good at taking silk gum out of the silk. Hot water works best!"
